SMVC is sporting a new and improved in-house laboratory from IDEXX. We are able to run a multitude of blood tests in our hospital laboratory and provide you with results the same day!
With the most modern veterinary laboratory on the island, we are setting the stage for continued upgrades to the standards of veterinary care on St. Croix.
Testing, Testing 1,2,3!
Continually improving our standards of care, Sugar Mill Vet Center’s brand new in-house laboratory focuses on early disease detection, chronic disease management, pre-anesthetic screening and provides real-time results during consultations. This is especially important when minutes matter during emergencies. Faster results mean faster and more accurate care.
A Complete Blood Count (CBC) test is a wide-ranging screening test that checks for anemia, infection, certain cancers, and a variety of other disorders. A Blood Chemistry Profile provides information about your dog or cat’s kidneys, liver, and pancreas, as well as other functions of the body, such as blood sugar and hydration.
3 Reasons Your Pet May Need Bloodwork
- To STAY Healthy! Comprehensive screening for early disease detection with an annual wellness exam is helpful at any age but is especially important to for aging pets.
- Patrol for Parasites! Infectious disease screening identifies whether your pet has been exposed to heartworm, intestinal worms, or common harmful viruses.
- Preparing for a Procedure? Even puppies and kittens coming in for a routine spay or neuter can benefit from running pre- surgical bloodwork. We can spot early signs of disease and can get a better idea of how anesthesia may affect your pet. Bloodwork before surgery also gives the doctor a chance to potentially alter their typical drug protocol for sedation and anesthesia to a combination of different medications that are safer for your specific cat or dog.
